lot of choice here when it comes to carriers, and in many cases, you may not have a choice
at all. So at least you don't have the headache of shopping around.
Unfortunately China is still a stickler for blocking sites such as Facebook and YouTube,
but this is more of a hassle than an unfixable problem. With a VPN or proxy program in-
stalled on your computer you'll be able to leap these hurdles and continue on with relatively
uninterrupted, unrestricted Internet use.
Postal services and media, however, tend to have their own local standards. Despite the
ubiquity of China Post, the likelihood of a package reaching your hands through standard
post is low to zero. Couriers are almost always the better choice, particularly when the mail
is coming in from abroad. English-language media is limited not only in scope but in cred-
ibility. It may intrigue you for the first week of your fact-finding trip, but you'll soon be
reaching for international publishers and broadcasters to access more information on China
than you can get from on the inside.
