SCHOLARSHIPS
Adding to its efforts to attract more foreign students to its universities, the Chinese gov-
ernment offers a considerable number of scholarships each year. While most universities
offer their own scholarships—such as full scholarships that cover tuition, accommodations,
meals, and medical insurance, as well as partial scholarships that cover full tuition or partial
tuition—the Ministry of Education's China Scholarship Council and the Chinese govern-
ment have also created several other scholarship funds. These include the Chinese Govern-
ment Scholarship (CGS), the Beijing Government Scholarship (BGS), and the HSK Winner
Scholarship, which is awarded to the top HSK test-scorers in each country where the test is

diplomatic office or HSK testing service. Application dates for these scholarships typically
run from November to April (though this changes for different locations).
For more information on scholarships, visit the individual university's website, CUCAS,
or the China Scholarship Council ( www.csc.edu.cn ) .

kicks off with the autumn semester, running from September until the end of January, and
finishes with the spring semester, from February to June. There is also a summer period of
