There are various housing styles to suit your taste or needs, and the price point will ob-
viously swing dramatically. On average, university students in share accommodation situ-
ations can expect to spend around RMB1,500-3,000 per person per month; couples living
in a two-bedroom apartment in the inner-city are likely to be spending RMB6,000-15,000
per month, while a family living in a three-bedroom house with a yard will face rent to the
likes of RMB35,000-65,000 per month.
A typical Chinese-style apartment is compartmentalized, so the kitchen, bedrooms, bath-
room, and sometimes even the living room are individual rooms. These apartments can be
a little dark and gloomy, with small windows that are set back by built-in balconies. They
almost never have ovens, and only two-burner stoves, but will most likely come with a mi-
crowave, rice cooker, and fridge.
