Requirements for export from Beijing:
• Microchipping
• Rabies and other vaccinations
• Rabies antibody titer test (done at least 30 days after rabies vaccination). The titer test must be done at least 3 months
and no more than 6 months before leaving China.
• Six months in an intermediary country. Animals coming from China must first reside in an approved intermediary
country or region, such as the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, or Hawaii, for six months.
• Up to 30 days quarantine in destination country
In general, start contacting your vet six months before you leave China. The exit process
is not that complicated, just time dependent. Four months out, a rabies vaccination; 30 days
later, a rabies antibody titer test; and then, finally, one month out, arrange remaining exit
documents. Unfortunately, not everyone has the luxury of six months notice. This is where
services such as ICVS and pet relocation companies can really step in and help, taking care
of the process even after you've left. If your pet does require the rabies antibody titer test,
bear in mind that this blood sample needs to be sent to an approved laboratory—none of
which are in China. So this requires immediate export after the test is done. But as this is a
blood product, it's not that easy to do. Pet relocation companies, such as Globy Pet Reloca-
tion China or WorldCare Pet Transport, are experienced with handling this matter and can
help.
For more information on your next country, contact the relevant export/import body,
such as the USDA; the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry; or
Biosecurity New Zealand.
Documents
Rabies Vaccination Certificate: Thirty days to 12 months before your departure, go to a
valid animal vaccination facility—such as ICVS, Doctors Beck & Stone, or Guan Shang
Animal Hospital—and have your pet vaccinated against rabies. After this your pet will be
issued with the official Beijing Animal Health and Immunity Certificate (a red book).
