The length of time you can spend on this trip obviously depends on your individual circum-
stances. If you're flying in for an interview and a cram session on Beijing, there is now the
72-hour visa-free option. Be aware that you'll have to comply to the T with the regulations
stipulated for the pass, otherwise you may find yourself turned around at the airport. It's not
exactly the best amount of time to see the city, and you really won't get much of a feel for
it, but, then, you do what you can.
A week is much more ideal. This will give you time to get a better feel for the different
areas of the city, which can be as disconnected in lifestyle and distance as separate cities.
You'll get a brief insight into housing standards, the layout of the districts, and the general
feel of nightlife and entertainment. If you throw yourself into it, you'll even get a taste of
the squeeze of the rush-hour subway and road traffic.
Two weeks here will definitely allow you to burrow yourself in a little better, to get a
