Based on recommendations and suggestions
from colleagues and implicit knowledge of experts
in the fields, each category was then sub-divided,
and a questionnaire was devised and distributed
among the participating research groups. Figure
7 illustrates part of the questionnaire (related to
manufacturing) circulated to determine the ex-
pertise of each group.
Six concept categories were defined, which
determined the first hierarchical level in the ontol-
ogy: design, manufacturing, usage/ maintenance,
end of life cycle. Each category was further divided
and a form was designed and distributed to the
