interesting to validate the model using quantitative
research methods. Using i.e. a questionnaire to
identify end-users constituencies, by investigating
their BI specific individual, task and technology
characteristics and relevant situational factors (if
applicable), in order to improve the objectivity of
the validation. In addition, the questionnaire used
to investigate end-user constituencies, could be
used to comprehend the BI-FIT Framework with
an assessment tool, allowing organizations and BI
practitioners to investigate BI usage within their
organizations, and afterwards use the results to
improve the BI-FIT within their organizations.
Another recommendation for further research,
would be to extend the BI-FIT Framework by
focusing on specific types of organizations and
their characteristics, the influence of organiza-
tion size and to determine the “optimal” division
and/or mix of end-user types. For example in this
research organizations from different industries
(i.e. transport, telecommunications, food and
beverages, electronics, environmental protection)
operating in differing markets (B2C, B2B, G2C,
G2B) have been investigated. However, it could
be beneficial to concentrate on specific types of
organizations, and/or industries and their char-
acteristics. For each industry most probably an
“ideal BI situation” exists, dependent on several
factors like i.e. information intensity, dynamics
of the environment and strategy in use which can
be compared to the current situation in practice.
For example taking organizational strategy, it
would be interesting to explore the differences in
strategy approach, taking for example Treacy and
Wiersema's (1993) product leadership, customer
intimacy or operational excellence. Considering
these factors, most probably a certain division
of end-user types is required. In other words, it
is interesting to discover the “optimal” division
of end-users types that is needed within an orga-
nization. For example, you might conclude that
BI usage is inadequate considering the fact that
an organization is following a customer intimacy
strategy, operating in a dynamic environment that
requires fast decisions making, but does not have
sufficient power or expert users present to make
this happen. In addition, it would be interesting to
investigate the influence of organization size on
its BI end-user community. As it was discussed
in section 4.3, a larger organization is more likely
to have “expert” users than a small organization.
