Stereoscopic Video Coding Configuration Based on Scalable Video Coding (SVC): The
Scalable Video Coding(SVC)encodesvideodataindifferentresolutions(spatial/temporal)
andquality(refertotheSVC sectionabove).Dependingonthereceivercapabilitiestheusers
can decode the full-resolution image orsub-versionoftheimage.MostoftheSVCmethods
utilize the layered coding approaches to encode scalable image sequences. This study

able H.264/AVC is developed and standardized by JVT and supports spatial, temporal and
quality scalability for video coding [40]. In this coding configuration, the colour and depth

view based stereoscopic video. The coding of left and right views with this coding con-
figuration is considered in this chapter during the performance comparison of colour plus
depthcodingvs.leftandrightviewcoding.
