This chapter describes the state of the art video coding approaches for 3D video. An in-
troduction to the 2D video coding algorithms is provided. Moreover, scalable video coding
approaches which can be utilized in scaling 2D video applications into immersive video
are discussed. Then the potential coding approaches for 3D video in general and more spe-
cifically for stereoscopic video are discussed.
