In-Depth Information
I spent five days at Radisson recovering from the exertions on the
ice and catching up with my son. Dillon and I were joined at the hip,
walking everywhere with arms around each other. Greg, Nick and Jake
filmed me at Radisson standing in front of a big green novelty signpost
with arrows pointing to major cities of the world. I posed beneath it
and addressed the camera: 'Well, we're in Radisson, northern Québec,
the northern-most point of my run down the east coast of the US and
on to the South Pole. Now there are lot of cities on this signpost, but I
have to say that the one I'm looking forward to arriving in most of all is
Sydney, my hometown, 1550 kilometres away.'
At one point, we recorded some footage of me in which I appeared
cheery and positive, and my cheeks had a rosy glow. (I didn't explain
that this 'healthy' complexion was due to snow-burn and was sting-
ing like mad.) Weighing me down, though I kept on smiling, was
the awareness of the distances before me. From Radisson, Montreal
was 1265 kilometres, New York 2000 kilometres and Washington DC
2350 kilometres. There was still a long way to go.
