In-Depth Information
I was listening to a song by Adele, 'Make You Feel My Love', in
which she says that she would go to the ends of the earth to make
her lover feel her love. I thought, 'Yeah, so what else?' I suppose that,
although I am a romantic, going to the ends of the earth to prove my
love won't be enough anymore. I have raised the bar. It kept me busy,
thinking what more I would, or could, do for love.
The wind won this round. I simply couldn't endure it any longer,
so I decided to turn eastwards, onto National Route 26. This will take
me off National Route 40, which heads down the western side of Argen-
tina close to Chile, to the east coast, where I'm hoping that the Atlantic
Ocean and the south-running National Route 3 may be a little kinder.
It's a 270-kilometre trek to the coast. I hope I'm making the right deci-
sion. At least communications should be better on that side of the
country; the west is beautiful, but it's predominantly national parks.

Today included the good, the bad and the ugly.
The good were flocks of flamingos and getting our communi-
cations sorted. Katie and Javier found the nicest lady in town, who,
even though she had a five-month-old baby to look after, helped us
to fix our internet and then gave us a spare sim card that she had. Yet
another Samaritan. There have been so many, God bless them.
The bad was the relentless gale on the vast petroleum fields. The
wind really does seem determined to stop me; it bounced me all over
the place like a ping-pong ball. I could never be a sailor.
The ugly was me falling off the pavement time after time as I was
buffeted by the wind. I now have gravel rash on my knees, elbows,
arms and hands, plus a chipped tooth. Did I mention that I hate the
wind?

Finally, I have been rewarded with a view to die for: the Atlantic Ocean.
The sky is red, with the sun setting behind the mountains, and the
ocean is blue-green. The sand is white. I have a smile on my face. After
eating dust stirred up by mining operators and strong winds for the
past week, I can now breathe without a bandana over my face.
