emotion that has built up over the last ten months, born through pain
and exhaustion, frustration and loneliness, and the joy that I have all
but finished my trek have burst free. I know I haven't finished, that
tomorrow I must fly back to Chile and continue running for a further
2000 kilometres, but that will be a piece of cake compared with what
I've endured here.
I am so proud of what I've achieved, and I am prouder still that
I will be instrumental in providing clean water to some of the people
in our world who need it. I understand from Greg Quail that we have
inspired people to donate more than $100,000, and it's certain that my
completing the run will lead many more to dig deep for the cause. I
have received messages of congratulations from Prime Minister Julia
Gillard and Opposition Leader Tony Abbott, and those messages mean
so much to me. I'm hoping that the Australian government will make
a donation to the Red Cross, to make those congratulations tangible.
The satellite phone is going crazy. As well as doing all the
media interviews, I've spoken to Brooke and Dillon, who are happy
and relieved, to Greg Quail, my brother Bernie—now back home in
at t he ge ogra phic sout h Pol e.
