Bernie has not shown up yet, and my fear is that we will be through
Colombia and into Ecuador before he arrives. His Winnebago has all
our fresh clothing and gear in it. This run is a huge logistics exercise,
dealing with customs, immigration, the Australian consulate, the con-
sulates of the countries we are going into and out of, police, army, Red
Cross, media and so on, and at the moment all conducted in a foreign
language.
If I am to make the plane to the South Pole, I will have to maintain
absolute discipline with the distance I run every day, no matter how
bad my injuries are. I am constantly in pain. If it's not my knee, it's my
feet, or arms, or back, or something else. I feel like a piece of metal that
has been overworked and is showing fracture signs. I just need to hold
it together for three more months.
