Another visitor today was a fellow named Marco, whom we have
hired to organise my trek through the DariƩn. He has brought some
maps and a wealth of knowledge about the area. He sees security
issues and the fact that we are running through the jungle in the rainy
season as the major hurdles. He told me that it's easy to get caught in
a flash flood at this time of year. Sixteen people have lost their lives
recently in deluges in the region.
