Ciudad Victoria, the capital city of Tamaulipas, is a US-style town
with wide roads and a big retail and business district, but most of the
towns we've seen so far have been small and quaint, just a few brightly
painted wooden buildings clustered around a cantina . I took a photo
today of a man riding his donkey along the side of the road, and
another of a man working his fields with a horse-drawn plough, just
like in ancient times. These Mexicans work hard. Some farmers have
modern machinery, but most are poor and do not.
The scary-looking escort means that I'm not being bothered by
cars and trucks speeding by too close. When drivers catch sight of those
machineguns, they slow right down and give me the widest of berths.
