In-Depth Information
outside Houston last night. At the dinner, I met a woman named Leslie
and her daughter, Kate, both keen runners, and we chatted. The con-
versation turned to running shoes, and I mentioned that I'm wearing
mine out at a rapid rate and that I'm not sponsored for shoes. Steve
asked what size I take, and, without thinking why he'd ask such a ques-
tion, I told him. Today, Leslie and Kate pulled up in their car and asked
me to have a look in the boot. I did so: they had bought me seven new
pairs of running shoes. I was overcome by their kindness and wept.
Those shoes cost $200 a pair, and they and Steve, along with some of
their friends, had chipped in. They also gave me three mangoes and a
box of herbal tea, which I had mentioned that I enjoy. Theirs truly was
a donation with heart.
