local specialties of po-boy, gumbo and jambalaya danced before my
eyes, but I put them out of my mind and ran on.
I also met with the mayor of New Orleans, Mitch Landrieu, who
happens to be a keen runner, in his office at City Hall, and I presented
him with a shirt.
I was so moved by the people in New Orleans. They are resil-
ient and they never give up. So many were battered and smashed by
Katrina, not to mention other hurricanes and tornadoes, and no one
would have blamed them if they'd moved away to a safer part of the
United States, but instead they picked themselves up and have stuck
it out.
Finally, tonight I had some physiotherapy. A wonderful physio
caught up with us and went to work, loosening up my legs. They have
arranged for another physio to give me a session tomorrow.
Looking at my battered running shoes, I think I'll be moving on to
my seventh pair tomorrow.
