Hea ding for n ew o rlean s: do ing it hard in th e Big eas y.
July 15
One of my sponsors, David Hazlett of Hazcorp, which is based in
Narellan, near Sydney, is in Texas on business, and today he made a
500-kilometre journey to rendezvous with me in the town of Hammond,
Louisiana, just north of New Orleans. Our meeting was necessarily short,
because I had a long way to run in the heat, but it was good to see David,
and I told him how much I appreciated his financial and moral support.
The shooting pains in my butt and right knee are killing me. One
minute it's fine, and the next the pain sends me through the roof. There
was a chance of seeing a physio today, but he was 100 kilometres out of
my way, and of course I'd have to run the 100 kilometres back to get on
course, so I said no. Just too much lost time. I'll grin and bear it. Thank
God for Nurofen . . . This event is about being in agony.
Even so, I'd prefer pain any day to the endless irritation of the
sand flies. There are thousands of them in this swampy country, and
they travel in swarms and sting like hell. I've been ripping branches
from trees and using them as swatters.
