no longe r a lo nely highw ay: Broo ke ke eps m e co mpan y.
Brooke and Dillon's time with me has gone so quickly. We've been
through six states since they arrived. It's been good. They've seen me
giving everything I have as a runner, and we've had fun. There've been
singalongs, and they've run with me and ridden the bicycle alongside
me. They've kept my spirits high even when my body was suffering.
The visit to the baseball will always be special to us.
Before they went to bed, I told Brooke and Dillon how much I
love them. There are dangerous times ahead for me, and I want noth-
ing left unsaid. When my dad died, when I was 14, I told my mum
that I wished I'd told him I loved him more often. She said I shouldn't
worry, because he knew how I felt about him. But I still believe that
if you feel something, you should say it. You may not get the chance
later. One day, my wife left for work, and I never saw her alive again.
Her death taught me not to hold things inside, not to put things off,
to tell my loved ones that I love them, and not to waste a second of
this life.
