Rachel fancied him. His every word was heard by Rachel and the crew
in the van. Every time she encountered my brother afterwards, she
reminded him of it.
I've been having problems with the crew, including Bernie. For
various reasons, usually a communication breakdown, a couple of
times lately I've become separated from my support team and have
ended up running extra kilometres while I try to find them and they
search for me. These are teething problems that will be ironed out.
I told them, 'My job is hard. Yours is comparatively easy. We
have
to
communicate. If I'm in a vehicle and I hit the top of a hill I can coast to
the bottom, but when I'm running I don't go anywhere unless I keep
on running. Nothing happens unless I pick up one foot and put it
down in front of the other. A kilometre is no big deal if you're travelling
it in a van, but to a runner a kilometre equals 1000 metre-long steps.'
When I was running through the North Pole I was hard on my team
when I thought they were wasting time. It's the same now that we're
