Today, our timing was perfect. It was a thrill to run through Ottawa—
capital of Canada and the first major city on my run—on the very day
that saw the official opening of the country's 41st parliament. I ran
into the city in the morning, a crisp, brilliant, blue sky day, and made
straight for the magnificent Parliament House, perched high on a hill
on the Ottawa River. A grand and stately mansion with towers and
spires, it reminded me of the British Houses of Parliament in London.
The first person I bumped into as I entered the forecourt of Par-
liament House was the Sports Minister, Bal Gosal, who congratulated
me on my run and what I was trying to achieve. I presented him with
one of my running T-shirts and thanked him for the hospitality of his
countrymen.
