north along Highway X and bordered to its north by WI 54 is the Sandhill Wildlife De-
monstration Area (Sandhill WDA), which houses a fenced-in bison herd, tons of eagles, a
12-milelooptrail,anda20-milehikingtrail.Nativeprairieoaksavannarestorationisongo-
ing.TheSandhillWDAhasanoutdoorskillscenterdevotedtoinstructioningame-tracking
skills using firearms, bow, or camera. Both the Sandhill and Necedah confines are home to
more than 700 majestic sandhill and trumpeter swans, the latter transplanted from Alaskan
nesting pairs.
