It's great fun to drive aboard the free Merrimac Ferry across the Wisconsin River.

Little Lodi is the sleeper of southern Wisconsin, a picturesque off-river town of winding
streets,cheeryoldbuildings,andnotmuchtouristtraffic.Fromthere,headnorthwestoutof
town to Gibraltar Rock Park (via, get this, Highway J, then Highway JV, then Highway
V, then, somehow, Highway VA—got all that?) and get a bird's-eye view of the Wisconsin
RiverValley.It'sslightlylessinspiringthanDevil'sLakebuthasaboutatenthofthecrowd,
ifany.Lodialsocontainsanover-three-milesegmentofthe Ice Age National Scenic Trail,
which passes through bluff-view topography (you can see Devil's Lake), a grand overlook,
and oak savannas.
