sin River offers sublime cliff views, but also a diversity of rare flora and fauna (due
to its varied sun exposures). Best of all, you can have your own private little beach; I

and River Rd. (the first traffic light east of the river), head north on River Rd., bear
left at a traffic circle, and when you see Birchcliff Resort, it'll be the next left. Just
so you know, from the small parking lot to the river is a 20-minute or so walk that's
wide, but also atop clay, so it can be muddy or slippery during rainy periods.
Dells Army Ducks
Not to be confused with the Original Wisconsin Ducks, the Dells Army Ducks (608/
254-6080, www.dellsducks.com , tours 9am-6pm daily in summer, 10am-4pm daily May
and Sept., $24 adults) also tours the Lower Dells Islands. Tours depart the main dock along
U.S. 12 every 15-20 minutes. The company also runs, let's see, a zipline, jet boats, and a
faux-WWII PT boat.
Dells Boat Tours
The Dells Boat Tours (608/254-8555, www.dellsboats.com , mid-Apr.-Oct.) uses modern
cabin cruisers and offers separate Upper Dells tours (two hours), the only boat tour that of-

operate about every 20-30 minutes, 8:30am-6pm daily in high season, less frequently in
lower spring and fall seasons. Both Upper Dells tours ($25, $12.50 for children 6-12) and
Lower Dells trips ($20 adults) are offered. A combination ticket for both tours costs $33
adults. How about tours on 700-horsepower jet boats? There's nothing like the tranquility
of the Dells at 40 miles per hour.
MM WATER PARKS
Mere minutes in the Dells and your eyeballs begin to prune just from looking at all the wa-
ter. Right here are more big-draw water parks than in any other U.S. tourist trap. Consider
this thumbnail sketch of the highlights a mere appetizer for your inner hydrophile.
The granddaddy is the Brobdingnagian-in-scope Noah's Ark, America's Largest
Waterpark (S. U.S. 12/WI 23, 608/254-6351, www.noahsarkwaterpark.com , 9am-8pm
daily Memorial Day weekend-Labor Day, $36 adults). This place is housed on 70 acres
with more than 60 separate activities. On site are three dozen waterslides, two wave pools,
a kiddie pool, mini golf, bumper boats, kids' world, go-carts, a surf pool, a white-water raft
