Get ready to unshackle the calf hide. Ever since some pioneering artisans discovered the
tasteful architecture and low-key small-town tranquility here in the 1940s, Mineral Point
has been a hotbed for Wisconsin artisans. More than 40 galleries and studios populate the
town, and more seem to spring open annually. One weekend each October southern Wis-
consin artisans open their studio doors for back-room views of the artistic process; Spring
Green and Baraboo participate, but Mineral Point is the place to start any tour. The three-
day festival is a great combination of art and halcyon autumn. They also do this the first
Saturday of April, June, August and December.
