The Wisconsin Artists Showcase at the Jura Silverman Gallery (143 S. Washington St.,
608/588-7049, 11am-5pm Wed.-Sun. June-Dec., less often otherwise) has art furniture,
slumpedglass,handmade-paperart,photography,prints,paintings,andawholelotmoreby
Wisconsin artists, showcased in a 1900 cheese warehouse.
From the other side of the planet, the wares at Global View (608/583-5311), off High-
way C along Clyde Road in a reconverted barn, are not your usual import-export, they-
don't-know-any-better, Asian “crafts.” Global View maintains a reference library and loc-
ation photographs of the source of each item, if not of the artists themselves, and tours to
meet the artists are also organized here.
The whole of the Wisconsin River Valley can be thought of as one big farmers market.
Summertime vegetable stands crop up every half-mile, or turn up in autumn for pumpkins
as big as a kid.
