the Dickeyville Grotto, a masterpiece of folk art
South of Potosi along WIS 133 is the Grant River Recreation Area (608/763-2140), a
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-maintained riverside campground. The managers can give
good advice on canoeing in the area.
North of Potosi a mile and then east on Hippy Hollow Road brings you to the British
Hollow Smelter, the last of its kind in this region. With a 200-foot underground chimney
thrust deep into the hillside, the smelter was once one of the largest around.
Restaurants aboundinthePotosiarea,butwhereveryoueat,sample theMississippi cat-
fish (as if they'd let you avoid it). The main street features a bunch of supper clubs, and
you'll find more places to eat in Tennyson.
