Accommodations
Alma is home to great old (some revamped, some not as much) lodging everywhere you
look.
The steal of the whole trip are the sub-$50 rooms at the Italianate Laue House B&B
(1111 S. Main St., 608/685-4923), on the south edge of town. Originally built by a German
immigrantwhosesawmillessentiallygavelifetothecity,ithasbeenupdated,butdefinitely
not over-renovated, from a tiny one-person alcove to a huge room for four overlooking
the river. The owner of Felice Patra Inn (609 N. Main St., 715/579-4483,
www.felicepatra.com ) , Connie, is extraordinarily welcoming and the rates are very cheap.
It gets absolute raves.
Historic lodging is at Hotel De Ville (612/423-3653, www.hoteldevillealma.com ,
$95-180), a lovely renovated set of clapboard buildings with Italianate gardens. Hotel De
Ville also gets many raves.
The Alma Marina (608/685-3333) has houseboats for rent.
