Sights
North of the powwow grounds along Trepania Road/Indian Route 17 is the Ojibwa Cul-
tural Village. Wigwams sit in a forested setting, and visitors are guided through a group of
educational displays on Ojibwa heritage, from wild-rice fanning to blanket weaving. Some
of the activities are hands-on.
Also on the reservation, along Highway E, the St. Francis Solanus Indian Mission is
a site dating from the mid-19th century. The buildings include a rectory, a convent, and
school. Inside you'll find assorted Native American artifacts. It's open daily.
Festivals and Events
The tribe holds an annual Honor the Earth Traditional Powwow the third week of July,
the largest in North America; other powwows are scheduled for Veterans Day and Thanks-
giving.
