not bad either—one stretch along Highway M is the largest virgin white pine stand in the
state.
The state's most treasured folk art can be seen at Wisconsin Concrete Park.
The north fork's upper section is generally the tamest stretch of the river; parts of the
southern section can be killer.
A half-dozen larger lakes in the forest—a couple are designated wilderness lakes—are
muskie-rich. Besides fishing, a park highlight is Big White Pine, more than 130 feet tall
and 300 years old, off Highway M.
Family camping is found at Connors Lake and Lake of Pines, both off Highway W, and
there are a dozen or so primitive canoe campsites (free, permit needed). Camping reserva-
tions (888/947-2257, wisconsinstateparks.com , reservation fee $10, non-residents $14 and
up/night, daily admission $10) are not usually needed, but it may be best to err on the safe
side.
