In-Depth Information
Poor Superior, many jaded travelers sneer, proffers not much more than mile after mile
of drab, eye-level aesthetics typical of an ore town—endless coal foothills, the forlorn nat-
ural graffiti of iron oxide, a clunky patchwork of rail lines, ore docks and cranes, and too
much fencing. Worse, owing to its lower elevation, Superior seems to catch all of the cli-
matic flotsam that slides off the bluffs and across the harbor. While the sun shines on the
crown of Duluth, Superior sulks in a shroud of fog and a perceived shortage of trees.
