Evidence of Leinenkugel's beer is everywhere in Chippewa Falls.
Eau Claire may be named the city of clear water, but its chief competitor today is the “City
ofPureWater,”socalledforthenaturalspringsthatstillfeedintothebeerthatmadeitfam-
ous, Leinenkugel's (“Leinie's”).
ThewaterinChippewaFallsisclaimedasthe“purest”intheUnitedStates—justaskthe
locals. A private laboratory in Minneapolis was called in to settle a friendly feud between
Deming, New Mexico, and Chippewa Falls in 1969. The lab gave a nearly perfect quality
ratingtoChippewaFalls'water—andit'sbeenboastingaboutiteversince.ChippewaFalls
has also been noted by preservationists as one of the country's best preserved, in part due
