This is a canoeist's dream. Three separate lake chains lie within the forest, and the Eagle
River chain of 28 lakes lies to the east. Nineteen wilderness lakes in the Vilas and Oneida
County sections of the forest are absolutely free of visual shoreline pollution and have no
road access (85 percent of the region is government owned); a good example is Salsich
