In-Depth Information
The city once served as Wisconsin's lumber hub (producing more white pine than any-
where else in the world). A staggering 10.6 billion board feet of timber floated to town
down the Menominee River—even more astonishing given the region's pervasive water-
falls.
Ah, waterfalls. For sheer number of cascades in a county, Marinette County can't be
beat.
Sights
The Marinette County Logging Museum (715/732-0831, 10am-4:30pm Tues.-Fri. June-
Labor Day, $2 adults), by the river in Stephenson Island Park, contains replicas of two log-
ging camps, a stable, and a blacksmith shop (all done by one dedicated man).
Accommodations
Marinette Inn (1450 Marinette Ave., 715/732-0593, www.marinetteinn.com , $60) has
spruced itself up and now offers lots of amenities. This is a great value for the price.
