FOOD
Downtown Appleton has an amazing array of eateries. Just stroll a few blocks and you'll
pretty much cover the world.
Pizza
Frank's (815 W. College Ave., 920/734-9131, 4pm-3am daily, $4-9) has been making
every ingredient of its pizzas from scratch for more than 40 years—including the saus-
age—and it's still going strong. If nothing else, head for the 18-piece brass big band blo-
wouts, held October-May.
Regional
Popular with Appleton residents is Mr. Cinders (1309 E. Wisconsin Ave., 920/738-0100,
10:30am-latedaily,$4-9).Youcan'tgowrongwiththeburgersorthedeliciousgrilledsteak

Open for 50 years and still going strong is George's Steak House (2208 S. Memorial Dr.,
920/733-4939, lunch and dinner Mon.-Fri., dinner Sat., $9-30). It's strictly steaks and sea-
food here, with piano music nightly.
This is Packerland, after all, so a visit to Vince Lombardi's Steakhouse (333 W. Col-
lege Ave., 920/380-9390, 4pm-10pm Mon.-Sat., 4pm-9pm Sun., $15-45) in the Radisson
Paper Valley Hotel is a requisite, and, in fact, the steaks are sublime.

For an upscale Pacific Rim-Asian fusion meal, head south of downtown to, technically,
Neenah to M Cy's Asian Bistro (208 W. Wisconsin Ave., 920/969-9549, lunch and dinner
Mon.-Fri., dinner Sat., $10-16), whose remarkable food has heavy overtones of Thai. And
Cy is one of the friendliest proprietors you'll ever chat with at your table.
Mediterranean

939-1122, 5pm-10pm Mon.-Sat., $9-20), a pan-Mediterranean (Hellenic heavy) restaurant,
famed for their flaming cheese.
