Fish Fries
Local bar and grill The Settlement (3254 Bay Settlement Rd., 920/465-8415, from $4) has
a top-notch Friday fish fry featuring perch. It's as much bar as grill, but given the quality
and portions of food, and the fact that they welcome you like a friend no matter who you
are, it's a great local find.
Vegetarian
No, it's not oxymoronic to be a vegan in Green Bay; it just seems that way. Kavarna (143
N.Broadway,920/430-3200,breakfast andlunch daily,brunchSat.-Sun., $5-10)ismore of
a coffee shop with a café complex, but the baked yam fries are worth a trip.
Regional
If you really want to rub elbows with the locals, check out M Kroll's, the best family res-
taurantintown,withtwolocations.ThemoreconvenientoneisonMainStreet(1658Main
St., 920/468-4422, 10:30am-11pm daily, until midnight weekends, $4-11). The other (S.
Ridge Road, closer to Lambeau Field, 920/497-1111) is the older of the two and appears to
have come straight out of the movie Diner. They serve great walleye and perch along with
legendary burgers. This Kroll's also features wall buzzers that customers can use to sum-
mon the waitstaff.
Kroll's competition is Bay Family Restaurant (Military Ave. and 9th St., 920/
494-3441, breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily, $6-11). The Bay uses ingredients direct from
familyfarmsandserveshomemadepiesandpilesofhashbrownsthesizeofencyclopedias.
There are two other locations: 1245 East Mason Street and 1100 Radisson Street. All are
open for three squares per day.
Supper Clubs and Fine Dining
M The Wellington (1060 Hansen Rd., 920/499-2000, lunch and dinner Mon.-Fri., dinner
Sat., $8-28) is a Green Bay institution of sorts. An exclusive spot done up as an English
drawing room, it specializes in beef Wellington (no surprise) and excellent duck, steer ten-
derloin, and seafood dishes.
Eve's Supper Club (2020 Riverside Dr., 920/435-1571, lunch and dinner Mon.-Fri.,
dinner Sat., $12-50) has the grandest view of any dining establishment, perched atop the
