Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary
Up the road from the amusement park is the excellent Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary

Sept., shorter hours the rest of the year, free), a 700-acre spread with exhibits on Wisconsin
fauna, including the very popular timber wolf house.
NEW Zoo
The well-regarded NEW Zoo (4378 Reforestation Rd., 920/448-4466, www.newzoo.org ,
9am-6pm daily Apr.-Oct., 9am-4pm Nov.-Mar., $6 adults, $4 children 3-15, children under
3 free), eight miles north of Green Bay, allows the animals greater freedom to roam.
AnimalcompoundsincludePrairieGrassland,WisconsinNative,andInternational—you're
as likely to see a Galápagos tortoise as you are a Wisconsin red fox. The zoo has tripled in
size in recent years and added many new exhibits, including a black-footed penguin zone.
A children's area allows interactive experiences.
Side Trips
WestofAshwaubenoniszany Seymour, whichbillsitselfasthe“HomeoftheHamburger,”
purportedly invented here. The townsfolk fete their title with the annual Burger Fest the
firstSaturdayinAugust;theyprettymuchtrytofryaworld-recordburger(somethreetons)

of WIS 55.
Organized Tours
The Foxy Lady (920/432-3699, www.foxyladycruises.com , Tues.-Sun. mid-Apr.-mid-
Oct.), docked behind the Holiday Inn City Centre, offers sightseeing, lunch, cocktail, sun-
set, dinner, and moonlight cruises. Rates start at $16 for a narrated cruise and go up to $40
for a sunset dinner. Reservations are required for all but the sightseeing cruise.
RECREATION
Trails
The Fox River Trail isa14-milemultipurposetrailstretchingalongtheFoxValleycorridor
to Greenleaf. The city is also the departure point for the Mountain Bay Trail, an eight-
miler linking to trails west to Wausau.
