In-Depth Information
Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant is an institution in Sister Bay.
You'll find impeccably well-thought-out and executed “regional international” cuisine,
and certainly a meal worthy of splurging on, at the M Inn at Kristofer's (734 N. WIS 42,
920/854-9419,from5pmWed.-Mon.May-Oct.,$15andup).Tinyinsizebuteminentlyde-
pendable in its fare, the inn is a highlight of any true culinary experience in Door County.
Just a recent heavenly example: Chicken Roulade with local cherries and Japanese herb
bread crumbs with a (local) lingonberry reduction.
Two other slightly upscale spots warrant attention. Newer is the excellent steakhouse
Chop (10571 Country Walk Ln., 920/854-2700, dinner daily May-Oct., Wed.-Sat. Nov.-
Feb.,from$14),whoseKobeburgerisahighlightforanyhungryroadhog.Onthenorthend
of town, the Waterfront (10947 N. WIS 42, 920/854-5491, 5pm-9pm Tues.-Sun., $24-37)
is run by a couple with three decades in the Door's restaurant business and is well known
for its seafood.
For an otherworldly treat, head for Door County Creamery (601 WIS 42, 920/
854-3388, open daily from 11am, from $4), opened by lifers in the county's culinary in-
dustry. Try the unreal goat's milk gelato made daily (the goat farm is a mere mile away).
