A gracious hostess who receives as many kudos as any in town awaits at the
Garden Gate
Bed & Breakfast
(434 N. 3rd Ave., 920/217-3093,
doorcountybb.com
, from $120). While
the rooms may not be enormous (save the Lavender Room, which has a double whirlpool),
they are modern and well-kept.
North of Sturgeon Bay five miles via Highway 57,
Whitefish Bay Farm B&B
(3831
Clark Lake Rd./Highway WD, 920/743-1560,
www.whitefishbayfarm.com
,
$125), a 1908
American farmhouse, has four sunny rooms. Instead of quotidian day jobs, the transplanted
Milwaukeeans now raise Corriedale sheep. The farm covers 75 acres of meadow and orch-
ard, and with all that wool the owners, accomplished weavers, give spinning and weaving
demonstrations in their barn-cum-art gallery.
Virtually everyone has good things to say about the
Bridgeport Resort
(50 W. Larch
St., 920/746-9919,
bridgeportresort.net
, from $140). Its one- to three-bedroom suites have,
in each bedroom, a fireplace, kitchen, and double whirlpool. They even thought of having
extra sinks. Surprisingly, it's a great place to bring kids, thanks to its indoor pool and ball
crawl area, but it's just as good for a romantic getaway.
