hill ski mountain is adjacent), bicycles, skeet shooting, a recreation room, indoor exercise
facilities, massage therapists, weights, whirlpools, sauna, and steam room. Its private land
holdings include almost 1,500 acres of diverse meadow and forest, along with its own lake.
That said, many insist that the best of all isn't even a resort. At M Seven Oaks (682
Wells St., 262/248-4006, www.sevenoakslakegeneva.com , $259), think cottage layout with
boutique hotel interiors, though folks universally adore this place as much for the caring,
welcoming owners. It's a genuine retreat, and I'd live here if I could.
Camping
JustoutsideofLakeGenevatothesouthalongWIS120, Big Foot Beach State Park (262/

and great cross-country skiing. It has too many campsites, however, for a 270-acre park.
Reservations (888/947-2757, wisconsinstateparks.reserveamerica.com , $10) are available

FOOD
Waterfront
Legions keep coming back to Popeye's (Broad St. and Wrigley Dr., 414/248-4381, lunch
and dinner daily, $5-11) for fare from the roaster, which smokes chicken, pork, and lamb
(each on a different day). The menu also features Yankee pot roast, Middle Eastern salad,
liver and onions, pot pies, and veggie burgers. Adjacent is Scuttlebutt's (831 Wrigley Dr.,
262/248-1111, 7am-9pm daily, $5-15), another American joint with, interestingly, some
Swedish specialties.
Steak Houses and Supper Clubs
Aninstitutiononthelakeisthetaverndownstairsat Chuck's (352LakeSt.,262/275-3222,
lunch and dinner daily, breakfast Sat.-Sun.) on Lake Street in Fontana. The “seven-mile
view” is legendary.
Worth a side trip just for the ambience is Fitzgerald's Genoa Junction Restaurant
(772 Hwy. B, 262/279-5200, 5pm-9pm Wed., Fri., and Sat., 3pm-7pm Sun., $7-13) in
Genoa City, approximately 10 minutes southeast of Lake Geneva. Housed in a historic oc-
tagon house, the supper club is famed for fish boils Friday; ribs, fish boil, and chicken on
Wednesday and Saturday; and fish, ribs, and chicken Sunday.
