Mocha Moment
(1121 Center Ave, no phone, Mon.-Sat., $3-7) has to be one of my fa-
vorite respite spots in the state. They take their idea of serenity seriously, with a wooded
setting and no phones in the shop. Bless them for that. For food, they offer some veggie
sandwiches.
Van Galder
buses (608/752-5407) stop in Janesville en route to Madison and Chicago up
to 10 times a day. The bus stops at the terminal at 3120 North Pontiac.

$6 adults), a 20-room hexagonal erstwhile stagecoach inn once used as part of the Under-
ground Railroad—stone and earth tunnels still lie beneath it. It was purportedly the first
building made from poured grout “concrete” in the United States. Also on the grounds are
an 1837 log cabin (the terminus of the subterranean tunnel) and plenty of 19th-century arti-
facts.
