Getting to Madison from Milwaukee (via I-94, 75 miles) takes just over an hour. From
Chicago (via I-90, 148 miles), the drive takes 2.5 hours. From Minneapolis (via I-94, 273
miles), it takes 4.5 hours. From Door County (via WIS 57, U.S. 41, and U.S. 151, 183
miles), it takes 3.5 hours. From Wisconsin Dells (via I-90/94, 60 miles), it takes one hour.
By Bus
Greyhound (800/231-2222, www.greyhound.com ) has lost its Madison terminal and had
in one month moved to two different locations; at the time of writing it was opposite the
Madison Metro North Transfer station on the north side and at the UW Madison Memori-
al Union. Neither site has ticket-dispensing options, so you'll need to pre-order your ticket
online.
Badger Bus (877/292-8259, www.badgerbus.com ,$22)hasdailydeparturestoMilwau-
kee from 3:30am-7:30pm, some via Mitchell International Airport. Some leave from the
UW Memorial Union, some from Kelley's Market six blocks or so west of the State Cap-
itol on West Washington Avenue, and some from the Dutch Mill Park and Ride near the
interstate. They have service to Minneapolis when the university is in session; these will
probably leave from the Chazen Museum of Art.
For Chicago head to the UW Madison Memorial Union, where the Van Galder bus
(608/257-8983 or 800/747-0994) leaves up to eight times daily, 2am-6pm, for O'Hare;

GETTING AROUND
By Car
Given the skewed topography, traffic can be maddeningly circuitous. Always keep an eye
on the Capitol. Also keep in mind that east and west in street names are approxima-
tions—it's actually closer to northeast and southwest. All east-west streets use the Capitol
as the dividing point.
The main thoroughfare down the throat of the isthmus is East Washington Avenue (U.S.
151); it leads directly to, and then around, the massive state capitol, which is connected to
