The
Greater Madison Convention and Visitors Center
(615 E. Washington Ave., 608/
255-2537 or 800/373-6376,
www.visitmadison.com
) is not well located if you're on foot.
The
Wisconsin State Journal
is the thin daily; its sibling
The Cap Times
is the more liberal
freebie published twice a week.
Neither of these really compares to the free weekly
Isthmus;
Madisonians dutifully trek
to java shops for a scone and a folded
Isthmus
with their lattes. A civic watchdog, it's got
the most energetic writing and especially kicks in entertainment scribblings.
For the best all-around coverage of the city, check the
Isthmus
website:
A delightful mélange of progressivism, half-assed professionalism, at times near-an-
archy, and great music,
WORT
(89.9 FM) is a local community-sponsored station. There's
little else like it in town.
Virtually all the downtown coffee shops have wireless Internet access. The
public library
(201 W. Mifflin St., 608/266-6300,
www.madisonpubliclibrary.org
)
has free Internet ter-
minals—but count on a definite wait.
By Air
The
Dane County Regional Airport
(4000InternationalLn.,608/246-3391)hasmorethan
80 nonstop flights daily to a dozen U.S. cities.
City buses run to the airport. The closest bus stop is a couple of hundred yards after you
walk left out the doors of the airport along International Lane.
