cient use of sunlight. Figure

shows the relative output of a
flat plate and a tracking
collector as a function of time of day. The graph is for the
latitude of Los Angeles at the equinox. The tracking
system snaps to full output almost as soon as the Sun rises
while the stationary
flat collector has a slow rise and fall,
and only reaches full output at noon.
