The beach road from Korissia leads past Gialiskari Beach for 2.5km to tiny Vourkari , a
favourite with yachties, where the waterfront is lined with sailboats and cafes. H Strofi
tou Mimi ( 22880 21480; mains €6-9; lunch & dinner, weekends only in winter) , on the far
side of the bay, is one of the best seafood tavernas on the island.
Otzias has a sandy beach and great family-friendly apartments 50m inland at Anem-
ousa ( 22880 21355; www.anemousa.gr ; studio/apt from €80/100; ) . A spectacu-
lar coastal road continues 5km to the breathtakingly situated 18th-century Moni Panagi-
as Kastrianis , high on a rock top. If you're circling back to Ioulida, the road from here is
equally gorgeous, along the crest of hills with grove-covered valleys plunging to either
side, and rural villages.
Eight kilometres southwest of Ioulida, Piosses , the island's best beach, is backed by
verdant orchards, olive groves and rugged hills. Well-kept Camping Kea ( 22880

May-Sep; ) , under thick eucalyptus, has a shop and cafe. The beach's taverna, Chris-
toforos ( 22880 31308; mains €6-10; Mar-Oct) , has great fish dishes.
Inland Kato Meria is known for its meat and mezedhes restaurant, H Taverna tou
Simou (
22880 24280; mains €6-15;
lunch & dinner high season) .
