In-Depth Information
Karamel MEDITERRANEAN $
( 22850 71516; dishes €3-8; lunch & dinner) Pass the beach and follow the narrow strip
of road over to the eastern side of the harbour to find this fantatic bistro. Inside it feels
homy and French or you can opt to sip wine from the tables on the beach. Daily dishes
include grilled local veggies and shrimp, gaspacho or pork with sage. Try the divine
homemade iced tea and scoff bread served with olive paste and tzatziki.
Mouragio SEAFOOD $
( tel 22850 71011; dishes €6-10; dinner) They don't do anything fancy here. They don't
need to. Big plates of superfresh prawns, fish and octopus are enough to draw nightly
crowds to this harbourside restaurant. Stick to seafood for your main meal, nicely roun-
ded off with stuffed tomatoes or local salads.
Captain Dimos GREEK $$$
(Katapola; mains €6-15; lunch & dinner) 'I respect tradition but add my own ideas,' the
captain explains as he whips up mouth- watering modern Greek dishes to serve on his
colourful harbourside patio. Mussels in olive oil and oregano; lamb in ouzo and honey;
and pork with orange and mint all crowd the tempting menu. Try the bugiurdi (three
cheeses, tomato sauce, eggplant and herbs) or choose from the list of creative pastas and
pizzas.
Honey & Cinnamon BAKERY $
( 22850 71485; Katapola) Look for the bright red window shutters and follow your nose
to the aroma of Christmas. This tiny patisserie, just back from the waterfront, bakes up
cakes, pastries and lots of local cookies. Try the ones made with the local liquor, amor-
aki . If you can't wait to dig in, plunk yourself down at a table and order an excellent cof-
fee.
Drinking & Nightlife
Teloneio BAR
(Katapola) It's questionable if the customs officer would be pleased with the present in-
carnation of his former office. Now a small, busy bar, its weekend DJs play to the crowd
while the bartendar pours mainly Greek beer and spirits.
