The island's forests of Aleppo pine, a legacy of the far-sighted philanthropist Sotirios
Anargyros, have been devastated by fires several times in the past 20 years. The trees are
slowly recovering.
Getting There & Away
Highspeed ferries link Spetses with Hydra, Poros and Piraeus, and Ermioni and Porto
Heli in the Peloponnese. In summer, caïques (€2 per person) and a car ferry (€1.50) go
from the harbour to Kosta on the mainland.
