BOAT
Ferries serve Samothraki (€14.50, two hours) only. There is usually one daily boat, but
schedules and times can change suddenly; always check locally, at the portside SAOS
kiosk, or travel agencies such as Leon Tours ( Click here ) .
BUS
Domestic
From Alexandroupoli Bus Station (KTEL Evrou; 25510 26479; www.ktelevrou.gr ; Eleftheri-
ou Venizelou 36) frequent buses ply the northeastern line to Feres (€2.30, 30 minutes), Sou-
fli (€6, 1½ hours), Didymotiho (€8.60, 1½ hours) and Orestiada (€10.60, two hours);
some continue to Kastanies, for the border crossing with Turkey. Another bus terminates
at Kipi, the main Turkish border crossing (€3.90, 35 minutes, five daily), east of Alexan-
droupoli.
Buses serve Athens (€63, 10 hours, one daily) and Thessaloniki (€29, 3¾ hours, nine
daily). For Kavala (€19, two hours, 14 daily), they go via Komotini (€6.30, 70 minutes)
and Xanthi (€10.60, 1¾ hours).
International
The railway company's international bus and train services remain suspended. For İstan-
bul, a bus (€18 one-way, €33 return) that's run by Thessaloniki-based Crazy Holidays
( Click here ) leaves twice daily from portside.
TRAIN
The train station ( 25510 26395) connects Alexandroupoli with Thessaloniki via Ko-
motini and Xanthi twice daily.
Getting Around
Only the campground, beach resorts or further beaches require bus or taxi. For the air-
port, take a Loutra-bound bus from Plateia Eleftherias, or a taxi ( 25510 28358; €12).
Some buses plying the Alexandroupoli-Orestiada route transit the airport.
