Bus
From Komotini Bus Station (KTEL Rodopis; 25310 22912; www.ktelrodopis.gr ) buses
serve Xanthi (€5,30, one hour, nine daily) and Alexandroupoli (€4.80, one hour, 14
daily). Buses also serve Thessaloniki (€25.30, 2½ hours, eight daily) and Athens (€63,
8¾ hours, one daily). The station offers free luggage storage; keys are in the apothiki
(storeroom). It is a five-minute walk northeast up to Plateia Irinis and ATMs.
TRAIN
The train station ( 25310 22650) connects Orestiada and Alexandroupoli with Xanthi,
Thessaloniki and Athens twice daily. It is 1km southwest of town on Panagi Tsaldari.
Getting Around
Komotini sprawls, but is walkable. There are taxis (

Alexandroupoli (ah-lex-an- dhroo -po-lih) is eastern Thrace's largest and most appealing
town. The axis of regional travel, this port serves visitors heading to or from Turkey, Bul-
garia, and in summer, Samothraki island. Alexandroupoli has two marvellous museums,
a pretty lighthouse, some good seafood restaurants and nightlife.
