In-Depth Information
(Orfeas 37-39; mezedhes €2-5; 10am-3am) This friendly bar in a restored old-town man-
sion has a fun vibe, old avli (back courtyard) with secluded tables and colourful upstairs
for winter. The owners, friendly siblings Theodota and Georgios, serve homemade
Greeks-meets-international mezedhes; there's no menu, but it's all healthy (Theodota's a
professional nutritionist). Both the food and admirably varied drinks are astonishingly in-
expensive.
Taverna To Perasma TAVERNA $
( 25410 78014; Ikoniou 16; mezedhes €2.50-4, mains €5-9) On a side street near the bus sta-

cumber, melitzanes 'special' (oven-cooked aubergines with cheese), sykoti krasato (liver
with wine) and yiaourtlou kebab (spicy beef kebabs with yoghurt on fried pitta with
salsa); it'll cost about €20 and feed four.
Restaurant Palia Poli TAVERNA $
( 25410 68685; Hasirtzoglou 7; mains €7-9) More inventive than other old-town places,
this wood-and-brick taverna offers quail, roast pork with plum sauce and orange duck.

long wooden rafters, soft couches and wall-bound antique implements. Try wine in sum-
mer, or a tasty hot chocolate in winter.
